| 3. | Predictive Testing for Cancer | | | Chemotherapy, when necessary, is selected for an idividual cancer based on the physicians knowledge and experience of clinical trials. In other words, chemotherapy for the individual is chosen based on the physicians knowledge and opinions of clinical trials in which one therapy is compared to another in a statistical fashion. The indivual cancer is treated as if it were the "average" cancer of that particular type. Now it is possible to test the inidivual patient's actual tumor in the laboratory and determine which drugs are very likely to work and which drugs are almost certainly not likely to work in the specific patient. With this information the patient can avoid receiving toxic drugs that are unlikely to work and get drugs that are most likely to work.
